Sound Reuse Artworks

Waste Spectrum

Mass tourism explored through sound and reclaimed materials.

Waste Spectrum

Waste Spectrum visually represents the sound spectrum of an audio production about the flow of tourists through Mallorca. The work explores the impact of mass tourism on the territory, its cultural structure and ecosystem, using the methodology of creative reuse.

Materials gathered on beaches and cliffs are combined with electronics, video and sound archives to create a conceptual, multisensory journey. Measuring 300 × 60 cm, the structure uses waste from Platja de Palma and the Deixalles Foundation, together with a recovered advertising panel.

Rocco Papìa’s recordings at Es Carnatge and Can Pastilla appear alongside sounds from the FreeSound archive. Electronics are by Gaspar Morey and Paul Conversy. The documentation lists exhibitions at Casa Planas in Palma in May 2024, Barcelona’s Convent de Sant Agustí in October 2024, and Toulouse in December 2024.
