Canti e Cunti contro le mafie
Theatre, words and music for a culture of responsibility.
Sicily’s voice, between memory and new sounds.

Sicilian singer Annalisa Cantàro and Rocco Papìa meet through traditional songs and works by contemporary Sicilian writers, finding new musical and geographical territories for them. The concert-performance «Talèa – Rosa canta e cunta» centres on the poetic world of Rosa Balistreri, whose voice left a profound mark on the island’s musical history.
Papìa plays seven-string guitar, charango, cavaquinho, mbira and jaw harp. His use of a loop station helps shape the arrangements and sonic spaces in which Cantàro’s voice brings traditional melodies and words to life.
The album «Talèa – Rosa canta e cunta» takes the performance into the studio: twelve songs, including one live recording, feature music by Rosa Balistreri, Alfio Antico, Franco Battiato and Carmen Consoli. Recorded between Bologna and Barcelona, it includes contributions from Fabio Tricomi, Roberto “Red” Rossi, Carlo Maver and Maurizio Piancastelli.
Talèa also takes part in «Canti e Cunti contro le mafie», a format bringing actors, musicians and activists together to promote a culture of responsibility.
