Casino Papia 4et
Jazz meets the popular music of Brazil.

The quartet explores the border between jazz and popular music, where music from different places meets and mingles. Its repertoire draws on contemporary Brazilian composers such as Egberto Gismonti, Guinga and Hermeto Pascoal, alongside original compositions by Rocco Papìa and Davide Garattoni.
These materials become the starting point for a creative, changing dialogue between Papìa’s seven-string guitar, Tim Trevor-Briscoe’s alto saxophone and clarinet, Davide Garattoni’s bass and Marco Frattini’s drums.
The four musicians’ backgrounds span jazz, musical traditions and instrumental research: from Trevor-Briscoe’s international experience and Garattoni’s studies in Indian music to Frattini’s jazz training in Italy and the United States. The videos and recordings gathered on the page document the ensemble’s sound.
