Benguelê
A European and Brazilian meeting around choro.

Benguelê explores Brazilian instrumental music, particularly choro, which emerged in Rio de Janeiro in the late nineteenth century through the meeting of European dances and Afro-Brazilian rhythms.
The group brings together musicians from Catalonia, France, Italy and Brazil around the traditional instruments of this repertoire: six- and seven-string guitars, flute and pandeiro. Rémi Meurice contributes his background in jazz and world music; Marcel Vallès brings research developed during years in South America; Rocco Papìa plays seven-string guitar; Jonas Santana contributes Brazilian percussion.
The biographies, videos and recordings preserved on the page document this experience. The original site lists Benguelê among the archived ensembles no longer active.
